Felting is an ancient process that was used to make non-woven fabric out of wool and other animal fiber. Evidence of felt has been found as far back as prehistoric times. Felt fabric is strong and durable and was used to make clothing, boots and other wearable items to keep people warm in winter – before knitting was ever invented.
Felt fabric is still produced commercially today but the felting process is also done by hand by artisans across the world who appreciate working with natural animal fibers.
